Product Exchange Management
Streamline customer returns and instant product exchanges with automated logistics workflow.
The Product Exchange Management module revolutionizes how you handle returns in Odoo. Transform your return process with automated exchange logistics—create linked return receipts and replacement deliveries with a single click, ensuring complete traceability and accurate inventory management.
Key Features
One-Click Exchange
Dedicated "Return for Exchange" button in the standard return wizard triggers the entire process instantly.
Dual Transfer Creation
Automatically generates both the incoming return (IN) and the outgoing replacement delivery (OUT) in one go.
Smart Serial Filtering
Intelligent lot/serial number filtering prevents errors by only showing relevant units for returns and deliveries.
Full Traceability
A unique exchange reference links all related operations, visible directly from the Sales Order history.
How It Works: Step-by-Step
STEP 1: Initiate the Exchange
Open any validated delivery order and click the standard Return button. You will see a new premium option:
- Select the items the customer is returning.
- Click the "Return for Exchange" button in the footer.
- The system takes over and creates all necessary paperwork.
STEP 2: View Consolidated Transfers
Navigate to your Sales Order to see the full logistics chain in one place:
- Look at the Transfers smart button.
- The list now includes the original delivery, the new return, and the replacement delivery.
- Clear source documents link everything together (e.g., "Exchange of OUT/001").
STEP 3: Validate the Product Return
Receive the product back into your inventory with built-in safeguards:
- Open the incoming return shipment (IN).
- Smart Filtering: When selecting Serial/Lot numbers, only the ones originally shipped to this customer are allowed.
- Validate the receipt to add the item back to stock.
STEP 4: Ship the Replacement
Complete the process by shipping the new item to the customer:
- Open the new outgoing exchange delivery (OUT).
- The system automatically suggests available stock in your main warehouse.
- Validate and ship to finish the exchange lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work with partial returns?
Yes! You can select specific lines and quantities in the return wizard, and the module will only process the exchange for those specific units.
What happens to the Sales Order?
The module creates "Logistics Exchange" transfers. It does not create new Sale Order lines by default, maintaining the original financial integrity of the order while accurately tracking stock movements.
Is it compatible with Odoo Community?
Absolutely. We have specifically optimized the views to ensure no proprietary Enterprise fields are used, ensuring a smooth installation on Community Edition.
